Switching Regent(s): A Roving Street Performance Residency in Regent Park - August 2023
What this is:
The Switch Collective will be running a four-day residency in Regent Park for a small group of multi & interdisciplinary queer (2SQT) artists exploring techniques for creating radical & roving queer street performance - performance that literally moves through public landscapes, engaging with its form, architecture, histories, futures and inhabitants (both human and greater-than-human).
Who we are:
The Switch Collective is a group of interdisciplinary Queer, Trans, Two Spirit, and BIPOC artists & community organisers who are deeply committed to weaving together our artistic practice and our activism, using & blending a range of mediums and technologies. The current core members are Naty Tremblay, Sedina Fiati, Lexi Sproule, and Daniel Jelani Ellis.
Website: http://www.switch-collective.com/
This is a residency for artists who:
● Identify as a Queer, Trans & Two Spirit artist or performer
● Embody or are interested in “switchy-ness”, an embodied practice of being flexible, open, adaptive, curious, trauma-informed, consent-based and of shifting between leading and following, stepping up and stepping back etc.
● Are excited about political public art that involves roving street performance, wearable & portable tech mediums, [trans]muting characters, pop up stages, processions, and other elements that move through & with space
● Have diverse arts skills & practices, and are excited about multiple disciplines coming together through performance, amplification, projection and more!
● Have strong communication & listening skills, and a keen interest in consensus building & deep collaboration.
● Have a sense of how this learning would benefit your existing arts practice
What you’ll receive:
● Experience with the Switch methodology
● Research tools & strategies for creating political public work
● Technical support & creative mentorship
● Experience with creating deeply collaborative multi-disciplinary work
